Fernlight I
"Fernlight I" ~ An Original, One-of-a-Kind Painting
where the forest breathes in gold
I made this piece and it’s sister (Fernlight II) while thinking about forest paths ~ the way golden light filters through the trees and shines upon moss and ferns, the feeling of stepping into somewhere that holds you without asking anything of you.
I called them Fernlight I and Fernlight II, and I let my hands lead most of the way.
Each piece is built in layers: pressed ferns and orchids from my own collection and from a dear friend, fragments of old book pages, gold ink, glitter, acrylics, and oil paint. Gold ink and glitter catch the light the way a forest path does in early morning.
The orchids and ferns were dried and fragile, and when I pressed them onto the surface it was as if they became something else entirely. More like memory than a flower and leaves.
