10 Easy and Quick Ways to Jumpstart the New Year as an Artist
As the new year is approaching, I have some tips for you to make it the best year yet for your art!
1) Create goals for your art
Try to envision where you see yourself in a year from now, five years from now, ten years from now. Based on where you see yourself and your art in the future, your goals for 2022 (and beyond) should align with where you see yourself later on.
Here are some good goals to start out with for artists: create a set number of artworks, create for a specific amount of time each week, do an art challenge, or start and finish a sketchbook.
2) Make a creating schedule or routine
Ask yourself: when do you feel most creative? Is it at night when everyone is sleeping? In the early mornings before work? Weekend afternoons?
Then get our your calendar or planner and plan out when you'll create your art next year. Block your creating time into your calendar, and stick to this schedule as best you can.
For example: I plan to dedicate my Wednesdays and Fridays (at least before my little one arrives 🤪) to creating my art.
3) Try something new with your art
This can be a new: medium, painting style, surface, environment, supplies, paint colors, or a new subject...
Trying new things with your art will not only help you find more inspiration and ideas, but it’ll also help you grow as an artist, improve your art skills, and help you refine and evolve your art style.
This new year, I plan on trying acrylic paints seriously for the first time! I recently got my supplies and I already feel more excited and inspired to create.
I plan to document this part of my artist journey on my YouTube channel, so stay tuned :)
4) Invest in yourself and art
One of the greatest things you can do for yourself and your art is investing in your journey and learning.
You want to know when I see massive improvement in my artist self? It's when I invest in art classes, books, or better supplies!
You're an artist, this is your purpose - whether you plan for it to remain a hobby or to create a business.
And when you invest in your purpose, you'll see massive growth not just with your artwork but with yourself!
When you invest in your art, you invest in your happiness.
