5 Things You Need To STOP Doing To Find Peace With Your Art
Finding peace with our art is important.
Letting go of things that keep us from finding that peace is vital to our growth as artists.
Here are some things you can let go of to start receiving: creativity, inspiration, joy, and confidence with your art.
Let go of: fear to move forward
Sometimes we get in our own way because we’re scared. Scared of what others will think of our art, scared to share our art with others, scared to paint the thing we truly want to, scared our art won’t turn out how we want it to, and I can keep going…
These fears hold us back from creating the art we are called to create. They make us get in our own way.
We need to let go of our fear so we can move forward. So we can improve our art, grow as an artist, and inspire others through our artwork.
Let go of: the belief that you’re not where you should be
I know exactly what it’s like to feel like your skills are not where they should be. You paint whenever you find the time and as much as you can, but your skills are still not where you want them to be.
You feel like you should be further along by now. But we need to let go of this belief.
Because you are exactly where you should be.
Feeling like we should be further along in our art hinders our growth as artists, and even more so, our creativity.
Let go of: the approval of others
You are your biggest fan. And validation starts with YOU.
If you seek approval from others for your artwork, you’re creating art for the wrong reasons.
You create art for YOU. It’s a part of who you are.
Let go of: making mistakes
I feel like I say this a lot, but you HAVE TO MAKE MISTAKES. You have to mess up.
This is how you’ll learn, improve your skills, and grow as an artist.
If you never make mistakes with your art, you’re not pushing yourself enough.
If you never make mistakes with your art, you’re staying in your comfort zone.
And the biggest, positive change you see in your art happens outside of your comfort zone.
Let go of: things that drain your creativity
Your creativity is a living well. It replenishes, but can also dry up - leaving you feeling uninspired.
One of the most important things you can do as an artist is to replenish that creative well every day.
To keep it from draining and drying up.
To do this, you should let go of things that drain your creativity.
Things that can drain your creativity well:
staying indoors for long periods of time, watching TV for hours every day, being on social media too much, consuming news and current events before creating, eating an unhealthy diet, doing things for others but never for yourself, comparing your art with other’s art, etc.
